He spoke highly of the achievements gained by the university over the last 14 years since the Prime Minister granted its licence.
"Achievements recorded over the 14 years have validated the Party and Government’s decision to build a university of world standards," President Triet said.
He said the university held dear its key position in renewing the nation’s tertiary education.
The university was acknowledged as the first pioneer unit to develop a special programmeof world standard to offer talented students bachelor’s degrees in science. The programme proved so successful, it was replicated by other universities nationwide. President Triet asked the university to draw lessons learned and to share them with other universities.
He urged the university to concentrate more efforts in post-graduate training to turn out more professors and doctors.
He expressed his total support for the university’s proposal to turn it into a multi-disciplinary university with world standards.
"The Party and Government will create conditions for the Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City National Universities to become major training centres for the country," he said.
The Ha Noi National University now has 12 training centres with five universities and seven affiliated faculties and centres on top of its nine science and technology establishments with three institutes and six research centres.
It has established relationships with 132 universities and international science and technology organisations, including leading universities like the Massachusetts University of Technology (USA), the Paris University of Technology (France), Tokyo University (Japan), Seoul National University (South Korea), and Qinghua University (China).
During the working visit, Triet was accompanied by Minister of Education Nguyen Thien Nhan and officials from the ministries of home affairs, planning and investment, finance, science and technology and the Ha Noi People’s Committee
