The National University of Laos (Nuol) is still a very young university, even though one of its missions is research, research activities are at an embryonic stage. The number of staff holding PhD degree and experimented researchers are very limited. Accordingly, researchers and research activities are also limited. Last, policies and management of research at NUOL only started formally in 2001 with the establishment of the Research and Graduate Office.
In such context, the missions of the Asia Research Center at NUOL (ARC-NUOL) have been being hard and complex. From its beginnings the Center aimed at encouraging NUOL staff to undertake research works. Having numerous applicants to ARC research grants was in some extent a great success. The appraisal and management of the research projects were almost done by the RGO.
Since January 2006 ARC-NUOL has been better involved in the appraisal of the research project proposals. New regulations on grant applications and on management of the research projects has been set up at applied. At the same time its home page has been updated and a brochure has been published and disseminated to the public.
